Our Philosophy

Missenden Arts Club (‘MAC’) aims to give to its students the opportunity to learn about history of art and architecture, and the arts in general, in a focussed but active way. Sessions either take the form of workshops or tours with the emphasis on active involvement in the learning.

MAC firmly believes that learning is most productive and enjoyable where the student takes an active part in their own learning and that of their peers. Enormous benefit can also be gained by visiting galleries and sites to see works at first hand with the guidance and direction of your tutor. The tutor is seen as the facilitator rather than the lecturer, guiding students in their learning.

To ensure that workshops and tours retain their interactive potential places are limited to twenty on workshops and twelve on tours.  At the end of any session students should leave with a much better and more detailed knowledge and understanding of the topic in hand, a knowledge and understanding which should be lasting. At the same time they should have had fun and met some new friends!
