The National Gallery I course

 

This course comprises a series of seven two hour workshops culminating in a visit to the National Gallery. You will be introduce in each session to one of seven key paintings from different eras displayed at the National Gallery. In groups, you will study and discuss the painting in detail. Facilitated by your tutor, you will become your own expert on these paintings. Your knowledge and understanding will then be tested by a fun quiz trail at the National Gallery in the final week.

 

Day: Monday

 

Dates: 25 September, 2, 9, 16 and 30 October and 6, 20 and 27 November 2017 (at the National Gallery)

 

Time: 2-4pm

 

Length: Over 8 weeks (seven two hour sessions in Old Beaconsfield; one four hour session at the National Gallery with a break for lunch)

 

Venue: The Fitzwilliams Centre, Old Beaconsfield and the National Gallery London

  • The Arnolfini Portait - Van Eyck 1434

  • The Baptism of Christ - Piero della Francesca 1450s

  • The Annunciation - Crivelli 1486

  • Christ Mocked - Hieronymous Bosch 1490-1500

  • Supper at Emmaus - Caravaggio 1601

  • Experiment with an Air Pump - Joseph Wright of Derby 1768

  • Visit to the National Gallery
